Faces that deform forming screams of pain, empty eyes and skeletal arms that try to climb a mountain of corpses whose bodies spew liters of blood; the cries reach a sky as black as coal illuminated by a red sun; a shower of ashes and embers is accompanied by the roar of powerful thunder that roars with such force that the desert ground, with veins of fire, shakes. The sadistic, skeletal, canine-looking, beasts devour the bodies of men still alive but unable to move. The hellish scenery beyond the mirror is carefully observed by Yukiko Kumahira, sitting in her bedroom while she combs her hair. She turns to the sound of a bell. A little white cat is on her bed and is licking its fur then stops; it licks its mustache when it sees a worm-like puppet; the cat lurks and its fur turns black; the cat attacks the puppet that comes to life. Gushes of blood left and right, the worm opens its jaws and devours the cat and takes refuge under the bed, moving with its paws.
Yukiko gets off the chair and looks under the bed. There's nothing. Just dark. Suddenly two huge eyes open. They look at her and a demonic voice screams:
"SMILE!"
Little Yukiko runs away in panic. The bed starts to move, the door's locked, the bed moves towards her and the demonic voice continues to scream:
"SMILE! SMILE! SMILE!"
The bed hits her, she falls on the soft that becomes hard cold. Yukiko is inside a square room with a concrete floor. A rusty iron door in front of her and an old worn mattress. Heavy noises of chains beyond the wall, screams of suffering mingle with laughter of joy. Yukiko approaches the door. She pulls it, pushes it, pulls it, pushes it again. Nothing. When the girl turns she sees herself chained to the wall, dressed in rags, she's crying in tears but her voice cannot be heard in any way; Vergil enters wearing a doctor's coat who pulls out a noose with which he brutally strangles the poor girl who now has Alisa's face.
Yukiko leaves that room and finds herself in the same room as before but this time the bed is covered with curtains. There are people; she raises the curtain and sees herself completely naked while she has sex with Alessandro Serpi who, however, has no life. His throat has been cut.
Disgusted, Yukiko, closes the curtain and runs away in search of a refuge; suddenly the girl finds herself on the edge of a ravine, she's about to fall and throws herself back, bumps into a rock wall, looks up and realizes that she's on a mountain. She looks down and sees the darkness. To her right she sees a man in an execution hood who drops. To the left of her the same thing. Yukiko continues, keeping very close to the rock, and ends up in a church, Westminster Abbey.
She sees her father and herself as a child. He smiles at her and makes her laugh, but then the man begins to scream furiously:
"YOU HAVE TO SMILE! SMILE! SMILE OTHERWISE YOU'RE UGLY!"
The little girl starts to cry.
"Why are you crying? Is it because you are ugly? I know. I never wanted you. I've always preferred Alessandro to you, you're just a waste of air. It's not my fault. It's your fault. That's why you have to smile. Because it is the only thing you can do. You have no other use."
Little Yukiko doesn't smile.
"Well, then if you don't want to make your father happy ..."
The man takes a knife and stabs the little girl in her heart, tears her heart out and eats it. Yukiko, seeing that scene, goes into a state of anger, and she attacks her bloodstained father and strangles him.
"Die, you bastard! How dare you kill your own daughter?!"
Yukiko's father disappears. The girl raises her head and sees in front of her Alessandro Serpi who kicks her in the face and starts punching her; she's helpless, her hands don't move, everything turns red and then black.
"How is our prisoner?" Giovanni Monteverdi X asked Valerio Donatelli.
"This way."
Valerio led the Grand Master of the Coven along a stone corridor that was in the basement; the two stopped in front of an iron door, the padlock was opened and the men entered this room lit only by a lantern. Lying on the floor was Yukiko Kumahira wearing a straitjacket; her eyes were empty, her whole face was expressionless and her mouth was open and the saliva was coming out from there; on the girl's forehead there was the symbol of an eye.
Giovanni bent down, took Yukiko by the hair and asserted:
"If Lombardo's calculations are correct then in a couple of weeks she will be ready to tell us everything."
"Are we really sure about this?"
"Of course. At this moment her mind is continually profaned by nightmares of all kinds, the Inquisition of the Soul is a very effective instrument of torture because it forces the subject to constantly doubt their beliefs. She has been in this state for months. When the symbol is removed, her mind will be so destroyed that she will no longer distinguish reality from fantasy."
"By the way ... Grand Master, aren't you worried about that floating island in Egypt?"
"That? No. It's just a distraction. Now my goal is to discover the true identity of our enemies to destroy them once and for all. And who knows ... maybe Yukiko could also help us find Alessandro Serpi."
That night in the Abbey of the Coven, the Grand Master met Marco Lombardo and Davide Ponti, both of whom were worried about what they had discovered while spying on the Order of Tot.
"Why do you want to persuade me to send magi there? What do I gain from doing such a thing?" Giovanni asked.
"It's a matter of safety," replied Lombardo.
"Exactly," added Ponti "and then we cannot ignore that Alessandro Serpi will probably be involved in this matter too."
"Perhaps. However, we don't have relics to summon powerful Servants like Julius Caesar. I had ordered Vittoria Toscano to kill that traitor but I've not heard from her yet, which bothers me particularly. "
"Then-"
"Then," Giovanni interrupted Lombardo, "you two must think carefully before convincing me to send men to fight on a flying island in the middle of the Egyptian desert. We don't have enough information on that place. I don't want to risk. We'll wait."
