Chapter 147 : Action and reaction

February 4, 2021 - Day 9

With the fall of the Clock Tower, chaos broke out in London. The whole nation went into mourning and in the meantime the prime minister declared a state of emergency, there was an increase in the police force and a curfew was applied, it was feared that the attack had been the work of terrorists and for this the purpose of the government was to flush them out at all costs. The royal family was made safe.
People were shocked but were unaware of the disappearance of what happened to the Mage's Association, which instead traumatized other organizations around the world. On that day practically all organizations gathered in Basel, Switzerland, in the International Ministry of Magic, a structure that was located under the waters of the Rhine and whose only access was from a house inhabited by homonymous guardians paid to protect the entrance.
The building had a circular shape with several colonnades and in the center a representation of the snake biting its tail. There were several tables with flags from different countries. The assembly presented: the Rote Mäntel for Germany, the AMPM for France, the Coven for the Vatican State, the Warsaw Academy of Magic for Poland, the Order of the Blessed for Russia, the Sisterhood for Spain, the Order of Tot for Egypt, the Grand Temple of Kayseri for Turkey and finally the Diocese of Flower for Ethiopia. The President of the Assembly, George Beneduce slammed the hammer on his table and said:
« I officially declare the Third Assembly of the International Ministry of Magic open. Greece, Sweden, Algeria and Romania are not present. The organizations of the following nations have chosen to appeal to the fifth clause of the Treaty of Alexandria which I remember being: "In the event of an attack on an organization that didn't take place at the hands of another body or organization of magi, it doesn't provide for the presence or testimony of all signatory parties of the following document to any assembly or court." Having said that we can start. »
The first to speak was Üzeyir Al-Najjar, the arch-knight of the Grand Temple of Kayseri:
« The situation is tragic, we understand it, but the absence of the nations mentioned above is truly reprehensible! We're sure that it was a magus that destroyed the Clock Tower and therefore I wonder why they decided not to come to the assembly anyway. »
The president replied immediately:
« Romania has admitted to being aware of the details of the incident but nevertheless believes that there's not enough evidence to prove that the magus belongs to an organization. »
« Anyway, we have to understand how such a misfortune could've happened. »
Carlotta III, the Holy Mother of the Sisterhood, spoke:
« The Holy Grail War of Yggdrasil proved to be more dangerous than expected, this is obvious. We couldn't foresee such a disaster, the best solution would be to end it immediately. Too many lives are in danger! »
Lesław Szymczyk, the rector of the Warsaw Academy, asked the president:
« At least we know how many survivors there are? »
« Just over a hundred, for the most part they were wise men far from the country or otherwise outside the Mage's Association. Lord El-Melloi II is alive, we are sure of this, he's the first person we have tried to contact. Director Blanchet can confirm that,
right? »
Nicolas Blanchet, one of the two directors of the AMPM, spoke:
« Yes, it's true. I spoke personally to the esteemed professor of the Clock Tower and proposed to stay in Paris but he chose to return to London to personally investigate the matter. I couldn't stop him. »
The director of the AMPM, Celia Dubois, added:
« However, his safety is not our priority. We must defend the interests of our organization, above all because among the victims of the terrorist attack there was also Dorian Benard, a very valuable teacher of ours. »
Then Giovanni Monteverdi X stood up, the Grand Master of the Coven exclaimed:
« Let's be frank: nobody here really cares about the fate of the Mage's Association. » No one said a word but everyone had astonished looks printed on their faces: « Looking at me with those eyes will not make you less hypocritical, we know that the Clock Tower has always behaved sufficiently towards us, treating us as second-level organizations. I know it and you all know it. The safenesse of that Sherlock Holmes with the inferiority complex is not of my interest, my problem is the person who destroyed the Clock Tower and I would especially like to talk about the relic that the Rote Mäntel were bringing there. »
Arvin Kraus, leader of the organization, got up promptly and, slamming his fist on the table, exclaimed:
« You're making everyone waste time with these speeches of yours! »
« I know you hate me, and you do well to detest me but ... the fact is that your organization had brought an extremely dangerous relic to the Clock Tower, which was destroyed. But it was just a matter of luck ... for you. »
« You're rambling! We don't have anything like that! »
« So the information I received from my spies at the Mage's Association was completely false? Have you not tried to use a weapon of mass destruction to solve another problem that's terrifying us? »
The President of the Assembly, slamming his hammer, exclaimed:
« Order! Order! Giovanni Monteverdi X, can you explain to those present what you are talking about? »
« We all know that the destruction of the Clock Tower isn't the only reason that led us here, our problem is Sheol, the Devourer-class Servant, the ninth Servant class evoked by the Grail. We know that misfortunes are taking place around the world at her hand and yet we're here, we fear of dying. But the Rote Mäntel? They tried to use a relic capable of destroying us all and agreed with the Mage's Association. Does this seem normal to you? »
« He's lying! » Arvin Kraus exclaimed furiously.
« Am I really lying? But I'm not here to attack my rivals, although I would like to do it, I raised the question only to show you that we're losing concentration. Our aim is to prevent this massacre from continuing. Our only option is: slaughter all the Masters. »
« He's mad! This guy is mad! » Arvin shouted.
« We don't know where the Holy Grail is but we know that without the Masters the Servants will disappear and without the Servants the war is canceled. Knowing the nature of Sheol we know that with her powers she doesn't need the Grail, so eliminating the Masters is our only option to end the war. »
« You can't really propose such a thing. »
« I proposed it, I entrust the rest to your vote. This war is dangerous, but the question is: do we want to solve the problem or wait for other people to be killed? Do you want to have the same fate as the Clock Tower? Think about it. »
